Communities in Schools (CIS)

Communities In Schools in a non-profit agency focused on empowering students to be successful and reach their goals. We work with students in four main areas:

 

Academics

  • Provide assistance and resources needed to complete assignments
  • A quiet place to complete assignments
  • Test taking skills
  • Organizational skills – binders, lockers, backpacks
  • School supplies 

Attendance

  • Encourage attendance – find motivations
  • Attendance tracking
  • Truancy Court
  • Home visits and family meetings

Behavior

  • Peer mediation
  • Supportive guidance – someone to talk to, identify coping skills
  • Place to calm down
  • Psycho-educational groups – Anger Management, healthy relationships, bullying

Social Services

  • Family meetings
  • Assistance with needs at home
  • Vision screenings and eyeglasses
  • Sports physicals
  • Food Pantry
  • Psycho-educational groups – alcohol and substance abuse, nutrition, job skills
