Communities in Schools (CIS)
Communities In Schools in a non-profit agency focused on empowering students to be successful and reach their goals. We work with students in four main areas:
Academics
- Provide assistance and resources needed to complete assignments
- A quiet place to complete assignments
- Test taking skills
- Organizational skills – binders, lockers, backpacks
- School supplies
Attendance
- Encourage attendance – find motivations
- Attendance tracking
- Truancy Court
- Home visits and family meetings
Behavior
- Peer mediation
- Supportive guidance – someone to talk to, identify coping skills
- Place to calm down
- Psycho-educational groups – Anger Management, healthy relationships, bullying
Social Services
- Family meetings
- Assistance with needs at home
- Vision screenings and eyeglasses
- Sports physicals
- Food Pantry
- Psycho-educational groups – alcohol and substance abuse, nutrition, job skills
